Saving A Life

My husband and I took the boys to for haircuts last night. We took my minivan so I drove.

It was probably around 6:15pm when we left the hair cut place. It was dark and also getting ready to snow again.

We were on a major road. The speed limit was 45mph.

My husband was talking on his cellphone with his buddy when I noticed the car in front of me was swerving all over the road.

At first I thought maybe the guy dropped something or was reaching for something. But he kept swerving and crossing the double yellow lines. He nearly crashed several times into either snow banks, trees and other cars.

I realized this was a serious situation. This guy was going to kill someone. So I asked my husband to get off the phone and call the police. Luckily we got to a red light and I was able to read off the license plate and the car color/model.

The police told us to stay back and to let them know if he turns off onto any road.

So we continued to follow the guy. At one point, he crashed into a snow bank on the right (doing about 40mph), shot completely across the road, spun around, bounced off the snow bank on the other side and then continued to drive. I could not believe it!

Not too long after that, while continuing to swerve all over the place, he put his left turn signal. It was on for about a mile. He finally made the left and I followed. Lucky for me, it was a parking lot for a Nursery. So I pulled in behind him and blocked him in.

The next thing I see is his reverse lights and he is starting to back up. I honked my horn wildly. My husband jumped out and started screaming at him to stop.

At that point, the police showed up. Thank goodness!

They talked to the guy then came over to talk to us. They said it seemed to be a medical issue. The guy said he just had dialysis and got a cramp in his hand.

I don't know much about dialysis. But, if it causes any kind of impairment, then dialysis centers should not let you drive home after treatment.

Although I am still shaking over the incident, I think I saved someone's life last night.

That is really scary. So glad you kept your wits about you and called the police.

I don't believe dialysis can do that but you are right if it does then they shouldn't allow them to drive afterwards.

I have never heard of dialysis doing that but who knew? He shouldn't have been driving for sure. Thanks for being brave and saving a life.
